Grand Junction Uses Six-Run Second Inning to Defeat Alpine, 7-4

The Grand Junction Razorback Suckers scored six runs in the second inning and held off the Alpine Cowboys for a 7-4 victory Wednesday night in Alpine.

Sean Becker opened the scoring with an RBI double that brought home Basiel Williams. Wyatt Cunningham followed with an RBI fielder's choice, Elias Fiddler added a sacrifice fly, and Nicholas Sall delivered an RBI single that also produced another run on an Alpine throwing error. Michael Doerr completed the six-run inning with an RBI single.

Alpine got on the board in the third when Marco Martinez drove in Cade Labruyere with a sacrifice fly. Grand Junction restored its six-run advantage in the sixth as Fiddler singled home Cunningham to make the score 7-1.

The Cowboys answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Xavien Thompson doubled home Nick Capozzi, and Labruyere followed with an RBI groundout. Alpine added its final run in the ninth when Julian Aguilera scored on a wild pitch.

Cunningham led Grand Junction's offense by going 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Becker finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Fiddler drove in two runs. Grand Junction collected 11 hits and drew eight walks.

Capozzi paced Alpine with two doubles and two runs scored. Labruyere and Aguilera each had multiple hits, while Thompson contributed an RBI double.

Cody Hill earned the win after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one. CJ Pino worked the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, to record the save. Jaiden Proper took the loss after surrendering six runs, three earned, in two innings.
